The course focuses on heterogeneous catalysts and reactor design. It provides important background on heterogeneous catalysts and encompasses the catalyst design, characterization methods and qualitative and quantitative nature of catalyst deactivation. Approaches for modeling the kinetics of heterogeneous catalytic reactions are covered. The latter part of the course focuses on multiphase reactor design and operation and the interaction of reactions and transport limitations. Particular attentions are given to catalytic reactors with fixed and fluidized solid phases.
